Geology Field Trips

One of the best ways to learn geology is by getting out in the field and studying it in person. For that reason, all of our geology courses include at least one local/regional field trip to see some of the spectacular geology that Colorado has to offer. We also offer extended field courses to more exotic locales, usually in collaboration with another discipline.

Extended Field Courses

These courses typically include preparatory classroom sessions during a regular school term, the trip itself during a break in the academic calendar, and final projects completed upon return.

Hawaii

Our most popular field course is a joint geology/biology experience on the island of Hawaii, offered pre-pandemic in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. We hope to continue to be able to offer this course every 2 or 3 years in the future, as it is the perfect location to experience field work and learn about the interrelationship between geology and biology. Plus, the volcanoes and the coastal geology are amazing!
